This Friday we will be pulling out and heading south! Jon and I have been looking forward to this trip for several weeks now. Many times he has turned to me and said, “Let’s go right now!”. God took Jon out of Texas, but He never took the Texas out of Jon. It will be a very bitter sweet trip.
If you are not on Facebook or did not receive a FB invite, there will be a reception for Jon at Family Fellowship in Greenville from 4pm – 7pm on Thursday, May 30th. This is a chance to see Jon and have an opportunity to visit and share your heart and prayers with him as we travel this very difficult road. Come and go as you can.
The last couple of weeks Jon has gotten much weaker. He is sleepy most of the time; likely due to his inability to not breathe fully because his respiratory muscles are getting weak. This week he has begun feeling weakness in his arms and his legs are growing weaker. When we return home to Wisconsin, we will be moving our bedroom downstairs so that he does not have to do the flight of stairs anymore. Please be in prayer as we have submitted an application to an organization called “Rebuilding Together” to see if they will help with the conversion of a bedroom and bath on the first floor, as well as a handicap ramp into our home. We will also begin looking for a handicap van as the probability of needing the electric wheelchair seems to be in our very near future.
Some of you may wonder why things seem to be moving so quickly for Jon as he was just diagnosed in January. It is due to the type of ALS that he has. Bulbar onset ALS is the most progressive, devastating, and shortest survival of all ALS types. We don’t know why God has allowed this particular type to enter Jon’s life, but we are still trusting Him and are confident God still has a perfect plan for our lives.
I encourage you to love on Jon as much as you can. He’s a very special man and I love him dearly.
